National Educational Radio Network

The National Educational Radio Network (NERN) was a means of distributing radio programs in the United States between 1951 and 1970. At the end of its life, it was absorbed by National Public Radio (NPR).
The network began as the "National Association of Educational Broadcasters (NAEB) Tape Network" in 1951 at the University of Illinois. It was founded with the help of a US$245,350 grant from the WK Kellogg Foundation. At this stage, its role was to distribute tapes of recorded material.
NAEB Tape Network became the National Educational Radio Network in 1963. In 1970, it became part of NPR.
