National Center for Women and Information Technology
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The US National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) aims to ensure that women are fully represented in the world of information technology (IT). NCWIT's goal is to achieve professional IT workforce parity within 20 years, and its work aims to connect efforts concerning K-12 and higher education through to industry and academic careers.
NCWIT is a growing coalition of over 80 corporations, academic institutions, government agencies, individuals, and non-profits working aggressively to increase women’s participation in information technology. As a community of change-agents, NCWIT is committed to investing in research and education, determining best practices for progress and implementing these solutions across the country.
NCWIT has a three-pronged strategy for change:
- create a national community of practitioners
- broaden the conversation
- target key policy and opportunities
NCWIT is organized with a small headquarters of core staff in Boulder, Colorado, and seven nationally distributed hub organizations. NCWIT's Workforce Alliance, Academic Alliance, K-12 Alliance, Entrepreneurial Alliance, and Social Science Network provide valuable data, serve as advisors and institutional change agents, and implement effective practices within their organizations.
