National Book Critics Circle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) is an American non-profit organization of approximately seven hundred active book reviewers. John Freeman, a freelance critic, is the current president.

The NBCC was founded in New York City in 1974. It holds an annual award entitled the National Book Critics Circle Award, in which the best book in five categories are honored: fiction, general nonfiction, biography/autobiography, poetry, and criticism. Along with the best book awards, each year the NBCC chooses to honor the most accomplished reviewer, from within the membership, with the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing, as well as recognizing an individual's exceptional contributions to books with the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award.
