The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is an agency of the federal government of Nigeria operating as a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health. Its sole mandate is the regulation of quality standards for food, dietary supplements, drugs, biological medical products, blood products, medical devices, packaged water, and cosmetics in the Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) was established by President Ibrahim Babangida's Decree No. 15 of 1993.

  • Regulate and control the importation, exportation, manufacture, advertisement, distribution, sale and use of drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals
  • Test and ensure compliance with standard specifications designated and approved by the council for the effective control of quality of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals and their raw materials as well as their production processes in factories and other establishments.
  • Undertake appropriate investigation into the production premises and raw materials for food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals and establish relevant quality assurance system, including certification of the production sites and of the regulated products
  • Compile standard specifications and regulations and guidelines for the production, importation, exportation, sale and distribution of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals
  • Inspection of imported food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals and establish relevant quality assurance system, including certification of the production sites and of the regulated products.
  • Registration of food, drugs, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals
  • Issue quality certification of food, drugs, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals intended for export
  • Advise Federal, State and Local Governments, the Private sector and other interested bodies regarding the quality, safety and regulatory provisions on food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, bottled water and chemicals
