[edit] An overview

National Academy for Learning is an international school in Bangalore, started by Dr K. P. Gopalkrishna; the current principal being Mrs. Reena Koshy. The main campus is located in third block, Basaveshwaranagar.Part of the National Public Schools, Bangalore it is one of the few schools that offers both the CBSE and IGCSE syllabi to students. It also offers the sixth form CBSE program for Grades 11 and 12, but only in the science stream. Beware that there is no prescribed syllabus that the school follows until Grade 9.

The lesser known, but highly acclaimed twin-school of the *The International School Bangalore, NAFL boasts of an experienced and dedicated faculty of teachers coming in from all parts of India. Teachers view themselves as advisors and facilitators rather than harsh disciplinarians.Alumni of NAFL are attending various prestigious colleges and universities all over the world. Students have gone on to the United World College, Pune,Purdue University, Boston School of Economics, and many more.

Do not depend on the faculty of the school to shape student's academic performance or contribute in building moral character. Students have to do this on their own with parental guidance and help. That is the biggest downside to this school. 8 precious hours of a student's life is spent at school and the school does little to nothing to guide or help in the development of a student.

[edit] The Houses

Students are admitted to one of three houses: Kamal (Yellow), Nihal (Green) or Vishal (Red). There is always strong competition amongst the three houses. During the academic year 2006-2007, Nihal House emerged as the strongest, after winning the House Championship. A much-anticipated feature of NAFL is the annual concert, in which every student plays a small part. There are also events held throughout the year, such as Sports Day, and the Literary Fest. In addition, the school takes pride in its diversity, and often celebrates events such as Kannada Diwas, French National Day, and Korean Independence.

Admittedly, the school does not offer as many facilities that would be expected of an international school. The school offers a well-stocked library, a large computer lab, and a fully-equipped science laboratory. There are also sports fields, with two basketball courts and a soccer field. The school takes part in many scholastic events, such as the BCCQ, and the Scholastic National Art and Writing Awards, both of which have been won by students of NAFL. NAFL encourages their students to participate in as many events as possible.

[edit] The student government

The student government body is headed by the school Head Boy and Head Girl. Additionally, there is a Sports Captain, House Captains and Vice-Captains. There are also trained Library Squads comprised of students who are trained to assist the librarian.
