Natasha Soloveitchik Chances

Natasha Soloveitchik Chances (born 1920) studied at the Conservatoire de Paris around the time of 1931 to 1940. She came to Paris with her parents, Senya and Rodia Soloveitchik, at the age of 12. Her father was a judge, and her mother a lawyer, an unusual occupation for a woman of the time period.
Natasha studied piano under Alfred Cortot at the Conservatoire. In the early 1940s, Natasha and her parents went to America. She went on to marry Ralph Johnathan Chances, who became the Department Head for Economics at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, in September 1944. In July of 1945, Ralph and Natasha had their first child, Ellen Belle Chances. In October of 1955, they had their second child, Kenneth Charles Chances. Their daughter Ellen is the Department Head for Russian Studies at Princeton University, and a published author. She never married. Their son Kenneth is self employed, owning his own entertainment company. On August 1, 2001, Natasha's first grandchild, Rhiannon Joselle Chances, was born. Kenneth married Shawna Busche Chances on November 1, 2001. Natasha has been an adjunct music professor for Bates College in Lewiston, Maine since the early 1960s, and is still teaching.
