Nat Gonella
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nat Gonella was a UK jazz trumpeter and bandleader but also a singer, popular during the 1930s and 1940s. He was formerly a member of Billy Cotton's Band. His distinctive vocal style was reminiscent of Louis Armstrong and was often overlooked by critics as it was eclipsed by his achievements as a band leader and trumpeter.
He was born on the 7th March 1908 in London, and died in Gosport in Hampshire, England on 6th August 1998. Gonella has been an important influence on other British jazz trumpeters including Humphrey Lyttelton and Digby Fairweather.
In the Dutch Hit Dossier 1965-2005 can be read that Gonella was born as Theo van Est.
