I though I read that it was "Near Extraordinary Wizarding Levels," which would make sense considering OWLs are "Ordinary Wizarding Levels" 146.243.4.157 17:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Is there any evidence that NEWT grading follows the same system as for OWLs?

I thought NEWT stood for "Never Easy" instead of "Nastily Exhausting." NCEA Level 3 is just as exhausting - I only made it past Level 1 last year. Scott Gall 03:06, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Isn't the NEWT acronym only explained once, by Fred and George,in one of the early books? "Nastily Exhausting" sounds like a backronym, kind of like GCSE standing for "Given a Certificate for Sitting Exams". 172.142.210.231 01:06, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

It's only explained once, but not by the twins. It's in book 3, first page of chapter 16: "Percy was getting ready to take his N.E.W.T.s (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests)." PruneauT 09:36, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Percy

Percy doesn't really land a high-ranked job in the ministry right away. It is only after Barty Crouch Sr. dies that he is promoted to a high-ranked job, namely Junior Assistant to the Minister. I'm gonna update it. PantherFoxie 17:22, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Factual Error; Harry Ron and Hermione

"Most students take around three or four advanced N.E.W.T. classes. However, exceptional students go beyond this: Percy took twelve N.E.W.T.s, and Hermione Granger took seven. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley each took five."

Only Percy has taken his NEWTS, others only took their OWLs. With that said, I don't feel like looking at whether the number provided was Percy's OWL or NEWT, so I am deleting the whole sentence. If someone wants to find Percy's, feel free to add it. DON'T PANIC 08:49, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
