Nasum (pronounced Nah-sum) was a Swedish political grindcore and deathgrind band that was formed in 1992 by Anders Jakobson (guitar) and Rickard Alriksson (drums/vocals), two former members of the goregrind band Necrony. Two weeks before their first recording they added Mieszko Talarczyk as a guitarist. The tracks they recorded at this time were later released on the split 7" with Agathocles. Early on, they were featured on a four-way split MCD with Retaliation, Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organ, and Vivisection. They released the demos Industrislaven and World in Turmoil before being signed to Relapse Records in 1997 and releasing their first full-length album, Inhale/Exhale, as a two-member band, as Alriksson had left the band and Jakobson took over on drums. They later added a third member, Jesper Liverod, to the group so that they could tour with both a bassist and a gutarist, and released the album Human 2.0 (Human 2.01 in Japan) in 2000. There have been some recent line up changes to the band which now includes a member of the grindcore/goregrind band Regurgitate, and they have released their third full-length album Helvete (which basically means hell in Swedish). Both Helvete and Human 2.0 show a change in direction away from the more traditional grindcore-oriented sound that they had on Inhale/Exhale, and towards a much cleaner, technical deathgrind sound.
Lead singer/guitarist, Mieszko Talarczyk was reported missing as a result of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. On February 17th 2005 it was confirmed that his body was identified, and that he died as a result of the Tsunami Disaster on December 26th. The band therefore decided to break up.
While the other members returned to the bands they had been playing in besides Nasum, the drummer (and only remaining founding member), put all his energy into the making of the 2CD compilation Grind Finale. By the second half of 2005, he had, however, made a decision to return to the scene, with his new death metal band Coldworker. On December 17th 2005, six demo tracks from the drummers project were made available for anyone to download from Nasum's homepage.
