The Nasher Museum of Art is the art museum of Duke University, and is located on Duke's campus in Durham, North Carolina, USA. The $23 million museum was designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, and opened on October 2, 2005. A student preview three days earlier drew over 2000 undergraduates and graduate students. The museum, named for Raymond Nasher, contains more than 13,000 works of art acquired mostly by private donations, including pieces by Andy Warhol, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Pablo Picasso.
Recently, it was announced that Nasher would host the major moving exhibit "El Greco to Velazquez: Art During the Reign of Philip III" from August 22 through November 9, 2008. This exhibit will feature 70 paintings by El Greco, Velazquez and contemporaries such as Juan Sanchez Cotan.[1]
