Naruto dies (Japanese: ナルト死す - Naruto shisu) is episode 165 of the anime series Naruto.

[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The episode opens with Kakashi, Tenten and Neji all staring at a Grave. Kakashi says that this is the end of the Bird Country mission. Tenten starts to say something about Naruto, but Neji cuts her off saying that it is his fault. Kakashi tells them that sacrifices are part of being a shinobi and that they should return to the village. As they do, two ninja appear behind them, emerging from a rock. They wonder whether the Konoha ninja are really leaving, and suggest that the appearance of the masked Kakashi is worrisome. Naruto doesn't really die, he was only captured by the Bird Country guards and Tenten and Neji are only told by the guards that he was sentenced to death for breaking into the feudal lord's mansion.

Kakashi orders Tenten and Neji to return to Konoha with him. Along the way, he tells them that they're being followed, and uses a Replacement jutsu to throw their pursuers off the track.

The team returns to the capital, where Koumei has been ordered to commit seppuku. Just as it he is about to comply, the Norimusha appears and carries him away. The team pursues it, and Kakashi takes on a Rock Village ninja while Tenten and Neji follow the Norimusha--which turns out to be Naruto in disguise!
