Its original name is "NARASAPURAM". It was also known as "Nrusimhapuri" and "AbhinavaBhootapuri".

Narsapur is a city, Mandal and a municipality in West Godavari district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.Its geographical coordinates are 16° 27' 0" North, 81° 40' 0" East.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Narsapur had a population of 58,508. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Narsapur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 71%. In Narsapur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

River Godavari joins the Bay of Bengal near Narsapur(6 Miles away).

"Sri Adikesava EmbarmannarSwamy Kovela" in Narsapur is a famous temple. Sri Aadikesava emperumanar temple is one of the famous visnava temple in India.It was constructed nearly 300 years back by SRI PRASANAGRESARA PUPPALA RAMANAPPA NAIDU for the casue of his ACHARYA'S desire .This is the image temple of SRI PEREMBHUDUR TEMPLE,TAMILNADU. This temple was the only one in ANDRA PRADESH of its kind. Every year BRHAMOSTVAS for ADIKESAVA SWAMY and THIRUNAKSHATRA USTSAVAS for RAMANUJACHARYULU will take place between APRIL and MAY for this gracious moment vishna acharyas and deviotes will come all across from india.This is the real eye feast for the visnavas. Kapila Maleeswara Swami temple (Shivalayam), Rajagopala Swamy temple, MadanaGopalaSwamy(Vishnalayam) and Jagannadha Swami Temple are famous temples in the town.

Apart from many temples, Narsapur also has famous Churches and Mosques. Newly constructed JAIN TEMPLE adds a feather in secular cap of Narsapuram, owing to considerable Jain community settled here.

Apart from the above temples, the famous Antharvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple can be reached from Narsapur. Antarvedi(East Godavari District) is famous for the temple of Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy, built during the 15th -16th centuries. Antarvedi is located 10 km from Narsapuram, at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and Godavari River. The experience of the trip from Narsapuram to Antarvedi by a steamer boat during rainy season when the river is flooded with water is memorable.

Perupalem Beach is one of the famous beaches in AndhraPradesh, is 18kms from Narsapur. Perupalem beach is well known for its scenic beauty.During Karthika Masam (November & December) many people visit this place. The beach has tremendous potential with a natural bay and comparatively shallow and safe waters. Velankani Mata temple(Baptist church) located on the shore, is worth a visit.

Narsapur is famous for Lace Art Craft. Lace products are exported to Dubai, France, the UK, the US, and other countries. This business is unique to West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in all of India.

Sri Yerramilli Narayanamurthy college was established in the year 1949 in the Narsapur town of West Godavari on the banks of river Vasista Godavari. It attained the status of full fledged college in 1956 and has ben elevated to Post-Graduate level in the year 1989-90. The entire college is affiliated to Andhra University Vishakapatnam and is spread over 14 Acres. It has an excellent accommodation with impressive infrastructure. Such as Administra tive, Post-Graduate,Physical and Biological Science Blocks, permanent class rooms, spacious Auditorium,Library building for UG an PG, Gymnasium, Seminar Hall,Computer labs for UG and PG etc. During the year 2000, this college has celebrated its Golden Jubilee celebrations with pomp and pageantry. Just as an Icing on the cake this college has recently been accredited to GRADE 'A' by the NAAC(National Assessment and Accredition Council) it is another feather in its cap. This speaks volumes of the strength of the college and this college stands tall and proud among all the colleges in AP.

We can see many jewellary shops in the town. Apart from this, all other business activities are very cool in the town.

ONGC has footage in the land and found reservers of Oil & Gas.

National Highway 214A passes through the Town, which connects Narsapur to Machilipatnam.

Bapu (artist) is born here in 1933.

Narsapur is gifted with excellent educational facilities. Sri Y N College in Narsapur is one of the oldest colleges offering professional education.
