Narrative Pop
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Narrative Pop is a form of modern music which through form, arrangement, text, and feeling seeks to join cinematic ideals with musical pieces. While anchored strongly in the musical sensibility of song-based music, the text along with the arrangements and even production draw a large influence from the roles that music has played and plays in the cinema. Certain composers have either parts or whole careers based upon this genre e.g. David Bowie, Scott Walker, Daniel Adam Smith, Matt Johnson of The The. A common feature of this genre are longer compositions that feature smaller instrumental sections that both diverge from the theme and in some cases lead back to it. The coda is most often employed as a closing part of the piece.
