Narayangaon

Narayangaon is a town in the Pune district of Maharashtra state, India.
The area around the town is rapidly gaining reputation as one of the leading wine-producing areas in India.
Naryangaon, is a very historic place. Many places with historic importance are located near Narayangaon.
The most important place being the birth place of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Two of the Ashtavinayak Ganapatis are located nearby. One is Shri Girijatmak of Lenyadri, situated nearly 17 kilometers Noth-West and Shri Vighnahar of Ozar situated nearly 10 kilometers to the North.
Also, Narayangaon can be called an industrial and scientific place. Vighanahar Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (Vighnahar Co-operative Sugar Factory) is about 6 kilometers from Narayangaon. Champagene India Ltd., the one of the important Wine making factory of India, is very close to Narayangaon. The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope site lies 7-8 kilometres to the west. VSNL (Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd.), India's gateway to the remaining world, is in Arvi which is 5 kilometers away from Narayangaon.
[1] Narayangaon is also surrounded by dams. Four major dams are very close to Narayangaon. Nearest being Yedgaon dam on Kukadi river is just 10 kilometers to the North. Vadaj Dam on Mina river is 16 kilometers to the West. Pimpalgaon Joga 30 kilometers to the North-West and Manikdoha 25 kilometers to North-West.
Narayangaon is also welknown for 'Tamasha'- a very old type of folkplay. Some of very great Tamasha artists like Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar were residents of Narayangaon.
Narayangaon is also famous for its splendid natural beauty. As it is surrounded by dams and the the western ghats, the Shyadri mountain range is very near, water is not a problem for it. So farmers here are workoholic. Farming includes mainly vegetables and sugar cane. But for last few years, farmers here are also trying other sources of income. They are now major exporters of table grapes. Grapes from here are exported to mainly Middle-East and Europe. Unemployed youths of a nearby village, Yedgaon, have started a co-operative dairy business. Under the leadership of Mr. Babaji Kisan Neharkar they have set up a co-operative dairy. Youths like Aatish Kashid, who has spent their lives in cities are now are providing veterinary help to them.
There is a hill fort called Narayangad near Narayangoan. This fort is around 10 km from Narayangaon. The fort is easy to climb. From Narayangaon catch a State Transport bus to Khodadgaon(Khodad). Get down at Malyacha Mala about 8 km from Narayangaon. Start walking towards Gadachiwadi. The fort has temple and some water tanks such as Narayan Taka, Chambhar Taka & Saat Taka.
Two Temples of 'Ashtavinayak Ganapati' OZAR and LENYADRI are nearer from the narayangon.
