Narayan Rane (मराठी:नारायण राणे)(born April 10, 1952) is a former Chief Minister Maharashtra. He was a member of Shiv Sena until July 2005 when he joined Indian National Congress party..

In July 2005 Narayan Rane launched a revolt against Shiv Sena along with 9 other MLA's which eventually resulted in his expulsion from Shiv Sena.On July 3, 2005, he was expelled from the Shiv Sena . On July 23, 2005, he resigned from the Maharashtra legislative assembly.

Narayan Rane has since joined the Congress Party and won the re-election from the Malvan constituency on a Congress ticket on the 22nd November, 2005.

A considerable development in and around Konkan region has happened after Narayan Rane became Chief Minister of Maharashtra State. He has taken keen interest in development of this region which is mainly dependent on Money-Order economy.

So far this fertile region with promising future in tourism and horticulure has been ignored by the earlier Congress elected representatives and was given step motherly treatment like Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra.

Nobody can deny the fact that, so far ignored reqion came into limelight and was put on the development map by Narayan Rane, albeight much scope for impreovement is still possible.

This could be confirmed by facts that Narayan Rane and his supporteres are still getting elected in the Zila Parishad and State Assembly with majority amidst major political changes and pre electoral dramas fulled by media speculations. However the fact remains, Mr. Rane has a shady back ground. His political clout is known for using muscle power to teach lessons to political oponents. While in Shivsena, he was exonarated of a murder charge of Shridhar Naik.
