Jiraiya: Naruto's Potential Disaster! (Japanese: おお、のォ～っ！自来也の女難、ナルトの災難 - Ō, nō~! Jiraiya no jonan, Naruto no sainan) is episode 83 of the anime series Naruto. The episode's storyline is from the Return of Itachi manga arc. It also sheds some light on Sasuke's past.

Kakashi is being tentby Guy, Asuma, and Kurenai. Sasuke arrives, and is puzzled by the strange scene, but the three Jonin resolve not to tell Sasuke. However, Aoba then arrives, exclaiming that Itachi is in town and is looking for Naruto, before realizing that Sasuke was in the room...
Urgently, Sasuke tries to find Naruto, realizing that Naruto is a dead man if Itachi finds him. Sasuke finds out that Naruto is with Jiraiya at a nearby outpost town. As Sasuke hurries to the town, he remembers how he had lived under the shadow of Itachi, and how one night, Itachi murdered the entire Uchiha clan, sparing only Sasuke, telling Sasuke to live on in an unsightly way. These memories awaken Sasuke's ambitions, and with anger, he activates his Sharingan.
Itachi was able to separate Naruto and Jiraiya by hypnotizing an extremely good-looking woman to keep Jiraiya busy, and then proceed to Naruto's room. Sasuke also tries to find where Naruto is. Sasuke asks one of the hotel keepers if she had seen a blonde boy with a stupid look on his face and a very big and tall white-haired man. She says they just checked in, and tells Sasuke the room number. Sasuke rushes down the hall and knocks on the door.
Meanwhile, Naruto, who was meditating with his shadow clones, hears a knock on his door, and he proceeds to open it.
The scene switches back to Sasuke. The door is opened.
The scene is back to Naruto, who opens the door.
The scene switches back to Sasuke. There is a blonde boy with a stupid look on his face with a tall white-haired man, but it isn't Naruto, and it isn't Jiraiya.
Back to Naruto...he opens the door, and sees a man who has eyes like Sasuke, and looks like Sasuke...Itachi Uchiha.

- During Sakura's memory of talking to Sasuke about the battle with Gaara, at the point where Naruto is practically on the ground trying to do Chidori, when Kakashi is shown again, his mask is no longer a body suit, revealing his neck.
- The scenes of juxtaposing Itachi and Sasuke searching for Naruto is a common occurrence, where it seems as though two people are about to meet each other, but they really do not.
- Though we know why Sasuke hates Itachi, we have yet to know the full details of their lives yet.
- Itachi stated that it is impossible to defeat Jiraiya head-on without dying, despite the number of people they use. Jiraiya himself used to believe that Orochimaru is better than himself (in a flashback, but it isn't known if that it is still true now). Orochimaru stated in Episode 81 that Itachi is more powerful than himself. This leads to a "circle of strength".
- It must be noted that the "circle of strength" can also apply to the three Legendary Sannin. In theory, Jiraiya is better than Tsunade, Tsunade is better than Orochimaru, and Orochimaru is better than Jiraiya.
- In this episode, the infamous "crow" makes its debut during the awkward silence after Jiraiya informs Naruto about how he is a Legendary Sannin. This crow will make several more appearances in future episodes.
- After Naruto fixes the bells and we see Kurenai, Asuma, and Guy with an unconscious Kakashi, Kakashi's mask is off for a split second.
- When Naruto tells Jiraiya about Kakashi's bells test and how he was tied to a tree, Jiraiya has a flashback of his bells test, and how he was tied to a tree as well.
