Napoleon chose to attend the U.S. Naval Academy where he played football and was the star tailback, punt returner and kick returner. During his time at Navy, he was a two-time consensus All-American and set an NCAA record with 7172 career all-purpose yards. He was also the career rushing leader at Navy with 4179 yards.
He rushed for 1587 yards his Sophomore and 1110 yards in his Senior year of college.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
[edit] NFL
McCallum played in 1986 for the Los Angeles Raiders while splitting duty with the United States Navy before having to spend his 5-year commitment with the Navy. He rushed for his season high NFL totals with 536 yards while splitting playing time with incumbent Marcus Allen.
He then spent his time with the U.S. Navy until 1990, when he rejoined the Raiders. His playing time was limited as he played special teams and as a short-yardage specialty back. He rushed for 3 touchdowns in the 1993 Playoffs. He was starting to play a lot more in 1994 when he suffered a ruptured artery in his left knee during a Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers that ended his NFL career.
He suffered a very gruesome knee injury in which it is said that his knee bent all the way backwards, and that his foot touched his groin.
Napoleon now owns his own company called Digital Prographics in Las Vegas, Nevada.
