Napier Airport (known to many as 'Hawkes Bay Airport') is Hawkes Bay's main commercial airport serving domestic flights to main centres such as Auckland and Wellington.
Napier Airport is relatively small with one terminal with car rental facilities, information desk, one shop, long-term parking and two check-in counters. There is a Koru Club for Air New Zealand special passengers but there is otherwise just one waiting hall. There is also a designated room simply for baggage reclaim without a carousel.
Unique to Napier Airport is the viewing floor, a small glass-fenced deck on the second floor in open air used for watching the planes go in and out.
Napier Airport is used lightly with just a few flights leaving each day, however due to booming tourism and commerce in Napier and Hastings there was a plan to revamp the airport to make it capable of larger aircraft and to allow international flights, but with competition from nearby Palmerston North and Wellington International Airports along with a local population of less than 200 000, the idea was rejected.
