Though currently a Republican, Nancy Stocksdale was first elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1995 as a Democrat.[1] She is one of the delegate for District 5A along with fellow Republican Tanya Thornton Shewell, which covers Carroll County. Since 2007 she has been the assistant Minority Leader in the House of Delegates. She was Deputy Minority Whip from 2003-06.

Stocksdale attended Franklin High School in Owings Mills, MD. She later graduated from Western Maryland College in 1956 with her B.S. in Home Economics.

After college, Stocksdale teacher in the Baltimore County Public Schools system. She has served 3 terms as the President of the Carroll County Republican Club.
