Namioka (浪岡町; -machi) was a town located in Minamitsugaru District, Aomori, Japan.
[edit] Merger with Aomori city
On April 1, 2005 the city was merged with Aomori city, the capital of the prefecture. The merger was very controversial. After the merger agreement was settled with Aomori city and the prefectural parliament had approved the change, strong objections were made by inhabitants of Namioka and the town chief was recalled.
The new chief elected in February 2005 indicated his opposition to the merger, but the merger itself happened according to the previously settled agreement.
It may be necessary for Namioka to separate from Aomori city again now that both the municipal council of Aomori city and the prefectural legislature agree on its separation.
