Name (metadata)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In metadata, a Name is a type of representation term is a textual label used as identification of an object.
For example in XML a person's first or given name might be represented as:
<PersonGivenName>John</PersonGivenName>
Note that in the above case the object is "Person", the property is "Given" and "Name" is the representation term of the PersonGivenName data element.
Note that although names are sometimes used to identify a person within a family, the Name is not required to be unique in any collection of Person records.
For unique object identification within an identification scheme the Identifier representation term should be used.
