Nambu Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nambu Line (南武線 Nanbu-sen?) is a railway line of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It links Tachikawa Station with Kawasaki Station, by crossing and then following the Tama River, the border between Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefectures.
Tachikawa Station is a transfer point for the (Chūō Main Line, Ome Line, Itsukaichi Line, and Tama Toshi Monorail Line). Kawasaki Station is a transfer point for the Tōkaidō Main Line and Keihin-Tohoku Line.
The name comes from Nan (南 south) and Bu (武 Musashi Province): the Nambu Line serves the southern part of Musashi.

[edit] Branch line
The Nambu Branch Line begins at Shitte Station with stations at Hatchōnawate and Kawasaki-Shinmachi as well as the Hama-Kawasaki terminal. At Hama-Kawasaki, passengers can board the Tsurumi Line. Services are operated using 205-1000 series 2-car EMUs, which are driver-only operated (Japanese "wanman"). Aside from the infrequent passenger service, the line is heavily used by freight trains serving the Keihin Industrial Area beside Tokyo Bay.
