Nakhuda - also pronounced as Nakhoda, is an originally Persian word meaning captain of a ship and is widely used in other Eastern languages including Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic (coastal dialects) and Malay. It is also used as a last name in some South Asian families.
