Naidaijin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Naidaijin (内大臣), usually translated as Inner Minister, was a Japanese government post. The role, rank and authority of the naidaijin varied, however, throughout history.

In the ritsuryō system, established by the Taihō Code in 702, the Inner Minister ranked third after the Minister of the Left (sadaijin 左大臣) and the Minister of the Right (udaijin 右大臣).

In 1885, the title was revived during the Meiji Restoration and was used for an executive in the Imperial Court (宮中 kyūchū). The title was abolished again in 1945.
