Nagie miecze (Naked Swords), a well-known symbol of the battle of Grunwald. The double swords were presented by Ulrich von Jungingen, the Teutonic commander to the Polish king in order to offend him by suggesting he was lacking arms to fight a battle. In reality his forces were simply waiting in a shady forest, while the Teutons were standing in full armour in the open field in mid-July. The king accepted the swords and when he finally stepped into the field, the result was more than a disaster for the sweaty Teutons.

Anyway, the symbol is ever since used in Poland, and is featured on a variety of road signs, military awards and such (check Image:Order Krzyża Grunwaldu kl. I-awers.jpg for instance). This particular image was self-made in the GIMP and Inkscape by Halibutt, basing on the original image by SciGeek
