N80 Destinations (NW to SE)

The N80 is a National secondary road that runs southeastwards from its junction with the N6 in the town of Moate in County Westmeath to the N11 just north of Enniscorthy in County Wexford. Total length is 140km.

[edit] Upgrading

In common with most National secondary routes, the N80 is a simple two lane road without hard shoulders for much of its route. Some of the worst bends may have been removed through the years and some junctions improved, but general pavement quality is rather poor. It is unlikely that major work will take place on the N80 or most other secondary routes until the National Primary routes have been fully upgraded, a process that is scheduled to be largely complete by 2010.

Works of note planned on the N80 include:

  • a new terminal point at the northwestern end at a grade separated junction with the N6 dual carriageway (under construction - 2007).
  • a bypass of Tullamore (combined N80/N52 bypass)
  • Mountmellick inner relief road (under construction and scheduled to open 2007)
  • Realigned section where it crosses over the M7 (Completed late 1990s).
  • Kildavin bypass (completed in the 1990's it involved passing over the village and bridging over the R724)
