This work is copyrighted and unlicensed. It does not fall into one of the blanket fair use categories listed at Wikipedia:Fair use#Images or Wikipedia:Fair use#Audio_clips. However, it is believed that the use of this work in the article "[[Pan Am Flight 103]]":
- To illustrate the object in question
- Where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information
- On the English-language Wikipedia ([1]), hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation ([2]),
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use and Wikipedia:Copyrights.
To the uploader: this tag is not a sufficient claim of fair use. You must also include the source of the work, all available copyright information, and a detailed fair use rationale.
Retrieved from the now defunct "Pan Am 103 Crash Website" (http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/5260/oldnews.html). No other known image of the actual aircraft "Clipper: Maid of the Seas" available.
[edit] Fair use rationale
Other images of Pan Am Flight 103 are crash images. Most are copyrighted but one crash image that is available and has until recently appeared in the article's crash info box is Image:PA103cockpit4.png. The latter image disappeared from the article about a week ago. To replace the missing crash image, I uploaded the only known image of the actual aircraft "Clipper: Maid of the Seas". Although the copyright status of this image is unclear, its source was the "Pan Am 103 Crash Website" (http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/5260/oldnews.html) which ceased to exist four years ago. It is believed that Image:N739PA Maid of the Seas.jpg qualifies under the fair use regime to be inserted into the crash info box of the Pan Am Flight 103 article.Phase4 11:53, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- The two images do appear to be the same view of the aircraft which seems to call into question whether the fair use rationale above is sufficient. I'm unable to expand upon it, however.Phase4 15:11, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
