N. Robin Crossby was born on May 18, 1954 in London, England, the third of four children. He began role-playing in the early sixties with his brother and sister.
He emigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1968 with his parents and two of his three siblings, at the age of fourteen. He holds an associate's degree in Philosophy from Douglas College, and currently lives with his wife, two of his three daughters, and four dogs in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
Crossby is the creator of the Hârn fantasy setting and the HârnMaster role-playing game system, as well as dozens of other related works describing the world of Hârn. As of 2003 he began self-publishing material for this world under the label of Kelestia Productions after a contract dispute with former publisher Columbia Games ended with the unilateral severing of all contact.
As of January 2006, Crossby announced that he had a "transitional" liposarcoma (i.e., cancer) in his bowel. In January 2006, the liposarcoma was surgically removed and that Crossby, though he would require chemotherapy to prevent a recurrence, was on his way to recovery.
As of March 2007 the cancer has recurred, and he is undergoing chemotherapy that is reducing the size of the tumors.
