N. Rangaswamy

N. Rangaswamy or N Rangasamy (born August 4, 1950) has been Chief Minister of Pondicherry, India, since October 27, 2001.

Even after becoming Chief Minister, Rangaswamy rides motorcycle in his constituency of Thattanchavadi, Pondicherry, to meet with his constituents.

He is the only chief minister in India who roams without security. Any person irrespective of any caste,creed or religion can catch up with him, in his house during his morning meetings.

You could expect him to drop in your house with folded hands , if you happen to hand over a invitation for any of your functions.

Rangaswamy was educated in government school. He entered politics during his student days as a follower of K Kamaraj and an advocate of the poor. He has maintained a "Mr Honest" image throughout his career.

He failed in his maiden attempt to enter the assembly in 1990 from the Thattanchavadi constituency. In the elections the following year, he was elected from that constituency, and became Minister for Agriculture and Co-operation.

Rangasamy was re-elected in 1996. In 2000, he became a minister again. In the 2001 election, he won by a huge margin and was appointed as Minister for Public Works and Agriculture. In the year 2006 his opponent could gather only 500 votes, and entered his second tenure as chiefminister for second time.

He also became the Chief Minister that year, the first from the dominant Vanniyar or Vannia kula Kshatriyar Community of the Union Territory.

He was instrumental in developing the union Territories Infrastructure on par with metros, In the year 2006 survey by India today, Pondicherry ranked 1st among the best states to leave in India, Literacy, women empowerment, infrastructure, roads, water all stood 1st among other states in India.

His mid day meal scheme and Breakfast schemes for the poor school children has won accloades from masses.

Latest Budget proposal to make free education for all govt colleges had wiped the tears of many middle class students and their poor parents.

He has shown light to many families who's children had only intelectual capability. His Cabinet consisted of the following team players.

He has the capacity one day to rule this country.
