Nærbø
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nærbø is a village located in Hå municipality in Rogaland, Norway.
The main source of income is agriculture (mainly dairy, beef, pork, sheep and potatoes), dairy production (Tine Nærbø Dairy is where Jarlsberg cheese is made), agricultural related industry and landscaping/construction.
Nærbø has a town square(with a sculpture-park), three museums and a park for exotic birds.
Shopping can be done in individual stores or in one of the two shopping-centres:
- Amfi [1]
- Co-Op
[2].
Nærbø train-station is located on the Jærbanen railroad[3].
Sports is big in Nærbø, so there is an indoor sporting hall (handball) and a football course with club house. The local football-team has not been in the major league. The handball teams are more notable, and both host and visit tournaments regularly. Nærbø enjoys very little snow, so traditionally cyclists from all over Norway come there to exercise on the snow free roads in the winter months. A large skating-rink is also under construction.
Nærbø hosts a bi-annual formula racing festival in May [4].
There are places to eat and have a drink in town. One of the local specialties is Komle.
There are no hotels nor inns in Nærbø, so in order to get a bed for the night, one can either go to Nærland Gjestegård (by the coast) or north to Bryne town.
Nærbø has two protestant churches and countless other christian communities.
Nærbø has two public elementary schools (Motland skule and Bø skule), a public secondary school (Nærbø Ungdomsskule) and a private christian continuation boarding school (Tryggheim [5]).
