Náměstí Míru
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Náměstí Míru is a Prague Metro station on Line A. It is located in Vinohrady district under Korunní Street and has one exit through an escalator tunnel with a sub-surface vestibule under Náměstí Míru Square. The station completed along with the first section of Line A in 1978 served as a terminus for some time until expansion of Line A to Želivského station in 1980.
As of 2007 Náměstí Míru is the deepest station of Prague Metro. Its platform is situated 53 metres below surface. As a consequence the station is equipped with one of the longest escalators in Europe [1] (length 87 m, vertical span 43 m, 533 steps). Náměstí Míru, however, is not the deepest point within Prague Metro network, this record belongs to track tunnel between Hradčanská and Malostranská stations (68 m below surface).
The name of the station which literally means Square of the Peace derives from town square where the station is located.
