The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ) is a not for profit, self funding international organisation established under a Treaty between the Governments of Australia and New Zealand. It is the government-recognisied accreditation body for Australia and New Zealand responsible for providing accreditation to conformity assessment bodies (eg. certification and inspection bodies [CABs]).

JAS-ANZ has, to date, provided accreditation for CABs involved in:

• Management systems certification

• Personnel certification

• Inspection services

• Industry specific schemes

• Regulatory schemes

JAS-ANZ currently accredits over 50 CABs in located in Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, UK, USA, and Vietnam. In turn these CABs certify over 43,000 organisations around the world.

JAS-ANZ operations are overseen by a Governing Board comprising of ten members, six of whom are appointed by the Australian Government, and three by the New Zealand Government. The Chief Executive of JAS-ANZ is the tenth member. The Technical Advisory Council and the Accreditation Review Board allow JAS-ANZ to bring technical expertise and stakeholder involvement to the development of accreditation programmes and the accreditation decision respectively.

The JAS-ANZ Secretariat, located in Canberra, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand, is the administrative arm of the Board. The Secretariat is responsible for administering the accreditation process, coordinating the technical committees associated with the accreditation programmes, providing input into national and international committees and working groups, and the development of new accreditation programmes.

The secretariat is divided into three business units - Accreditation Services, Technical Services, and Business Development.

Accreditation Services is responsible for administering the accreditation of CABs.

Technical Services provides technical assistance to the development of accreditation bodies in other countries, as requested by government agencies. It also provides assistance in the development of new programs for government regulators and industry groups.

Business Development focuses on establishing relationships with government, industry, and other key stakeholders, and promoting the benefits of accredited conformity assessment.
