[edit] Success

Numerous artists have reaped success from the chart, due to it being based on text votes. In the recent year or so, tables have turned on the once dominant foreign entries as local acts took number one after number one.

[edit] Local artists

  1. Sponge Cola. Five out of the band's six videos have reached #1 on the chart. "KLSP", the first single off their major-label debut, "Palabas", debuted in early 2005, surging up to #2. "Gemini" followed soon after, halting the eight-week winning streak of Hale's "The Day You Said Goodnight" and going to keep two weeks on top. "Una" took two non-consecutive weeks on top as it frequently switched with, coincidentally, another Hale song, "Kung Wala Ka". "Jeepney" took the top for two weeks in mid-2006, but it wasn't until their sophomore effort, "Transit", came out that Sponge Cola maxxed out their potential on the chart. "Bitiw", its first single, spent 6 non-consecutive weeks on top of the chart and was #2 in the Year-End Countdown. Their contribution to the Kami nAPO Muna Tribute to the Apo Hiking Society, "Nakapagtataka", spent 3 weeks on top. "Tuliro", their latest single, has already reached #1 on its 3rd Week in the chart.
  2. Hale. Hailed as the artist of 2005, at least for OPM, Hale contributed 3 entries to the 2005 Year-Ender: "Kung Wala Ka" at #17, "Kahit Pa" at #8 and the #1 song for 2005, "The Day You Said Goodnight". "Broken Sonnet", their debut single, peaked at #7. "The Day You Said Goodnight" and "Kahit Pa" both broke records with 8 weeks each at the #1 spot, and "Kung Wala Ka" spent 4 non-consecutive weeks at #1. "Toll Gate" peaked at #2, and "Blue Sky" at #4. "Waltz", from their second album, "Twilight", ended their #1 drought after it spent 3 weeks on top and made it to the 2006 Year-Ender. "Hide And Seek", their second single from "Twilight", has peaked at #4.
  3. Cueshe. In 2005, Cueshe's debut single, "Stay" didn't reach #1 because of Hale's "The Day You Said Goodnight", but it spent over 8 weeks in the top 5. "Sorry" reached #3, but "Ulan" scored the Cebuano band its first chart-topper, peaking at #1 for 4 weeks and reaching the 2006 Year-Ender. "Can't Let You Go" peaked at #6, while their singles from their sophomore effort, "Back To Me", didn't do as well, the title track peaking at #5, while "Borrowed Time" reaching #20, only.
  4. Kamikazee. Their breakthrough hit "Narda" debuted at #13 in March 4,2006 and quickly rose to #1 remained there for 3 weeks. This single gave the band its first ever nationwide success, recieving heavy airplays around the country. However, the song quickly fell out of the top 10 but was replaced by another of the band's succesful hit, "Martyr Nyebera" which reached #1 directly on its second week. "Martyr Nyebera" suffered the same fate as "Narda" quickly falling out of the chart. The band still continued their #1 streak with the release of "DoBidoo" which stayed at #1 for 3 weeks. "Ambisyoso" only peaked at #5. This marked the stop of their #1 streak.

[edit] Foreign artists

  1. The Pussycat Dolls. "Don't Cha" featuring Busta Rhymes only peaked at #13, but it spent ten weeks in the chart. "Stickwitu" followed, reaching #5, but "Beep" featuring will.i.am brought the foreign entry drought at the #1 spot to an end in early 2006, peaking at #1 for two weeks. "Buttons" featuring Snoop Dogg peaked at #3 but quickly fell. "I Don't Need A Man" took to #7, while "Wait A Minute" peaked at #8.
  2. My Chemical Romance. The band entered the chart in late 2005 at #15 with "Helena" but quickly rose to #4 on the chart, staying so long that it had to be replaced with "The Ghost of You", their next single, to fall off the chart. "The Ghost of You" peaked at #9 only. "Welcome To The Black Parade" entered at #17 in late 2006, and soon soared straight to #1 after hanging around 5 and 6 for about 4 weeks. "Famous Last Words", the latest single from "The Black Parade", has reached #1 for 2 non-consecutive weeks.
  3. F4. The boyband from Taiwan got their first taste of fame when the TV series Meteor Garden was released in Asia sometime in 2003. Not only did their names became famous, their songs were as well. With the release of "Can't Lose You", which dominated the charts in Asia. It spent a record breaking 8 weeks in the MYX Hit Chart. Their dominance continued with "Meteor Rain" which spent 2 non consecutive weeks at #1, and "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" which spent 3 weeks at #1. Throughout 2003 and 2004, F4 was a force in Asia, until the end of 2004, when the band decided to part ways. Incidentally, Meteor Garden was broadcasted by ABS-CBN, MYX's mother company.
