[edit] External links

Hi Myrthe. I don't understand why you are adding all those external links. Specifically, what unique resource do they provide that can't be found in the related Wikipedia articles? And can "The Ledge" be considered a reliable, verifiable source? Are you related to that website? As you may or may not know, the external link guidelines forbid the addition of links to websites you own or maintain. If you are somehow related to that website, those links will have to be removed. Mushroom (Talk) 17:03, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear Mushroom, Thanks for writing. Please don't worry about the links, I've checked them all out before adding them. The Ledge is definitely reliable: I've often used the info presented there in my own work. And it's fun! You ask what it adds: the unique aspect of The Ledge, I think, is the way in which books are connected in webs. The site really makes use of the possibility provided by internet to interconnect various elements: books, in this case, but also authors and literary movements. And the interviews on the site are quite good, too. sincerely, Myrthe 17:45, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but you haven't answered one question: do you own or maintain that website? And by "reliable" I meant reliable source, in the Wikipedia definition, as per Links normally to be avoided, number 2:
Any site that contains factually inaccurate material or unverified original research, as detailed in Wikipedia:Reliable sources.
The fact that you think the site is reliable is not enough: it must meet the WP:RS guidelines. Sorry for all these questions, but when there are so many link additions it's better to follow the policy. Mushroom (Talk) 18:02, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't mind the questions, Mushroom, I understand how important it is to be reliable. The people who run The Ledge are all experts in the literary field: two are professional literary translators, and another (Pieter Steinz) is the chief editor of the book section of NRC-Handelsblad (a major newspaper in the Netherlands). There is also a published poet on the staff (Onno Kosters) who also happens to teach literature at the university of Utrecht. I myself am also a university professor of literature and believe me when I say that I would never offer my students anything less than reliable information - and I always trust The Ledge. sincerely, Myrthe oh! p.s. And I don't own the website. Don't worry!

Ok then, you convinced me. Thanks for taking the time to answer, and happy editing! Mushroom (Talk) 19:09, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! By the way, I think Wikipedia is amazing. I noticed that you were from Italy. Do you still live there? Your English is excellent! Myrthe 19:15, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I live in Italy. My written English is quite good, I think, at least for the purpose of communicating with other Wikipedia editors. But my pronunciation is poor, since I never speak English with anyone. Mushroom (Talk) 14:09, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure everyone thinks your accent is quite charming... that's what usually happens! Hang onto it... ; ) Myrthe 15:24, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I will :) Mushroom (Talk) 17:51, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear Mushroom, As you can see, I'm still adding Ledge-links. I think they're wonderful. Hope you don't mind. When time permits, I'd like to begin writing some pieces of my own... I've checked the list of Dutch writers on Wikipedia, and as far as I can tell there's a lot of work to be done there. Since I'm rather a specialist in that area, it might be fun for me - and hopefully useful to Wikipedia! I'll see how work goes in the coming weeks (it's busy now). greetings! Myrthe 18:46, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

That would be great. Let me know if you need help with anything. Mushroom (Talk) 19:43, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I will. (Hey! I thought you were taking a wikibreak!) Myrthe 21:49, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
