[edit] History

Myrtle Beach Intermediate School was opened in August 1997 after a new middle school was built and our building was refurbished. Students came from Myrtle Beach Elementary School, which then became a second and third grade school.

We have had three principals since opening. Dr. Sandra Cross served from 1997 until 2003. Ms. Dottie Brown was our principal from 2003 until 2006. Ms. Cathy Slater is our current principal.

[edit] Awards

The Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest Award was presented to Myrtle Beach Intermediate School in March 2006. Our school received the prestigious award because our students are involved in the school with service learning projects, after school learning clubs, and partnerships with businesses as well as our work toward academic excellence.

Myrtle Beach Intermediate is also an Exemplary Writing School and a Red Carpet School. Our awards may be viewed at http://www3.hcs.k12.sc.us/Elem/MBI/awards.html

[edit] Special events

Myrtle Beach Intermediate hosts many special events during the year for students and families. Some of our events are Red Ribbon Week, Young Inventor’s Night, International Night, Career Day, field days, and Science Festival. Our parent – teacher organization sponsors many of our special events.

[edit] Learning

We start our day at Myrtle Beach Intermediate by repeating a pledge about ourselves, using our life long guidelines of trustworthiness, truthfulness, active listening, being appreciative, doing one’s personal best, and being someone who makes a difference.

Our curriculum follows the South Carolina State Standards for English/ language arts, math, science, social studies, physical education, fine arts, technology, and information literacy.

We enjoy "Brain Break" between our classes. "Brain Break" gives us a chance to move to music and revitalize ourselves for more thinking and learning.
