Mynachlog-ddu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mynachlog-ddu (SN143306) is a village in the Preseli Hills, Pembrokeshire and formerly a civil parish.

There are two places of worship in the village: the Anglican church (Church in Wales) of St. Dogfael (sometimes, Dogmael), and Bethel, the Baptist meeting house. It is also the name of community council created from the civil parishes of Mynachlog-ddu and Llangolman in Pembrokeshire.

The village has limited attractions. There are 2 phone boxes, 3 post boxes, and a pub.

Caermeini, or more correctly Carn Menyn, part of the Preseli range, is located here and was the source of the bluestones used in the inner circle of Stonehenge. In 2000/2001 a project was established to try and transport a piece of bluestone from the village to stonehenge. The project ended when the stone sank in the sea. It was lifted out a few months after, but the project was never resumed.

Mynachlog-Ddu is run by the village mayor Dyfed Davies along with his 50 other family members, which help to run the only hotel in the village,Pantithel Hotel. The hotel offers a wide range of facilities:open swimming pool, sheep sheering competitions and free Occupational Theropy classes with the recommended Dr.Gwenhwyfair ap Dyfed Davies. The hotel offers an alcoholic rehab, wich is used daily by Trystan Griffiths a local farmer that works in the village. Mr.Gwydion Badger Griffiths is by far the best sheep sheerer, and in Dyfed Davies' eyes (village mayor) a cruital member of the hambon society in Pantithel hotel. Mr. Davies would highly recommend the badger to any other farmer, as his knowledge of sheep is of the highest possible standard.
