[edit] Episode overview
J.D. continues to use Elliot's relationship with Dan against her in a game of one-up-manship. Dr. Kelso suspends Dr. Cox because he has yet to complete a mandatory number of hours of community service. To meet this requirement Dr. Cox decides to run two shifts of being an ambulance paramedic back to back. His co-worker is Denise Lemon - an incredibly annoying woman who voices her every thought. Needless to say she irritates Dr. Cox, much to Jordan's delight. J.D. makes out with Molly and wants to ask her on a date but Molly asks him to clear it with Elliot first. The ambulance Dr. Cox is in crashes which makes Denise his patient. He realizes why Denise won't stop talking. Elliot exacts her revenge on J.D. finally making them 'even'.
[edit] Trivia
- While Denise (Molly Shannon) is at Dr. Cox's apartment, she makes a reference to her character having a reputation as "The Big Easy" in high school because she was a slut and "did everyone". In a previous episode of Scrubs, Turk complains to Carla that his mother called his college girlfriend "The Big Easy" because she was fat and slutty, to which Turk defends: "she had beautiful skin".
- This is the first Scrubs episode with Braff as director. In the episode commentary Braff comments that Bill Lawrence gave him this episode to direct as it was the most challenging in the season.
- The girl that J.D. is flirting with in the bar scene is played by Amy Ferguson, who had a small role as Dana in Braff's directorial debut film Garden State.
- This episode bears some similarities to the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles In that Doctor Cox becomes increasingly annoyed at the fact that his travelling partner won't stop talking, also similarly to the plot of the movie, she is later revealed to have lost a loved one she had previously pretended had been alive.
Yet another similarity is that JD tries to get to Molly's apartment, but due to many unfortunate circumstances, he finds himself increasingly delayed and becomes more and more desperate to get to her apartment. - After making out with Molly (while watching Sixteen Candles starring Molly Ringwald), J.D. says "God bless Mollys everywhere." Denise was played by Molly Shannon.
- Molly Shannon's character states that seeing paramedics work on her son made her want to become a paramedic. The uniform she wears has a NJ Department of Health EMT patch on the sleeve. In NJ EMTs and Paramedics are different levels of training, and each receives a different patch.
- When Molly's going away party is in Turk's apartment, Todd high-fives Turk twice. This is one of the only times that The Todd gives a high five without the signature whip-crack sound.
- While in the ambulance with Dr. Cox Denise tries to get him to sing to "(Doctor, Doctor,)Bad Case of Loving You"
Which was played in episode 2.07 "My First Step" while Heather Locklear walked past the hallway of the hospital.
