[edit] Episode overview

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

In this episode, Dr. John "J.D." Dorian developes appendicitis. During his treatment at the hospital, he is cared for by Dr. Elliot Reid and Dr. Chris Turk. J.D. complains of Elliot's cold demeanor with patients and expresses concern for Turk's immaturity. As is common in most episodes of Scrubs, however, each character finds their insights into their own problems and misconceptions. J.D. learns to appreciate Turk's skill as a surgeon despite his immaturity outside of the operating room, and Elliot realizes her strengths as a skilled doctor as well.

The episode ends with the begrudging Sacred Heart Hospital family enjoying a makeshift thanksgiving over drinks in the local bar.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the scene in which Turk plays on JD's fear of pennies, the coins he uses are silver coloured, rather than the copper colored of pennies (although that could be because of the odd colors in the bar lighting).
  • When Turk shows JD the pennies, JD is angry with the pennies, not afraid of them. This could be because the Janitor hates JD because in the first episode JD suggests it could be a penny that was messing up the door, and it was.
  • The area in which JD has surgery on his appendix changes through the episode -
    • Turk says he will make an incision on the right when the surgeons are examining him.
    • When the actual surgery takes place, Turk operates on the left side.
    • When he later checks up on JD, Turk examines the right side. In real life the appendix is on the right.
  • JD assumingly begins to explain the history of Thanksgiving at the end of the episode, saying "there was the Nina...", whereas this was actually Christopher Columbus' ship and having nothing to do with the Pilgrims of Thanksgiving fame.
