Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

On the day of the school dance, Duncan doesn't have a date, so he sets off to find a girl...

Enter Hallie Richmond! A perfect match, the two hit it off right away and Duncan asks Hallie to the dance, not realizing she's the president's daughter. When Duncan arrives to pick Hallie up at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, he is shocked to find himself in front of the White House! They initially set off for the dance, but shaking off the Secret Service agents, they change plans and visit a clothing store, a night club, a bar, and other places. At the bar, Duncan's BMW is stolen by two crazy teen thieves, and during the course of the night Duncan saves Hallie from a boy who tries to force himself on her. The movie concludes with Duncan receiving thanks from the president, and a promotion for Duncan's dad because of a call from the president. For Duncan, however, the best part of the night is a kiss from Hallie. Duncan and Hallie continue to see each other...but not without four Secret Agent vehicles and a helicopter, at her father's request.

[edit] Trivia and goofs

  • After Hallie and Duncan ditch the Secret Service at the movie theater, and one agent begins to talk on his cell phone about the incident, one of the movie posters displayed outside the entrance reveals the 1997 Disney film, Flubber.
  • In one scene where Hallie runs through the streets, she appears barefoot. However, in the next shot, she is wearing platform shoes.
  • At the end of the movie, where Duncan and Hallie go on their second date, they are driving in between some buildings which happen to be tall skyscrapers. Clearly, this setting doesn't look like it takes place in Washington D.C., but in Vancouver, Canada.
  • In the mall scene where the president and Duncan's dad finds a Hallie and Duncan lookalike, they were wearing their outfits that they recently bought at the mall. The president last saw Duncan and Hallie prior to them purchasing their outfits.
