This Weezer track appears on their fifth studio album, Make Believe. As the band was working on the album, they struck a deal to have "My Best Friend" be included in the film Shrek 2 yet this deal was scrapped when the makers of the film didn't think it fit to the timings of the visuals. The Counting Crows song "Accidentally in Love" took the place of "My Best Friend." [1]. To which Brian Bell commented "I think at the moment when the Shrek people wanted it, it wasn’t complete either. And that would have been the version that would have been the first Weezer song people heard in 3 years, and it wasn’t actually finished to the best it could have been, so it’s a blessing that we got to work on it a little longer." After the rejection, Cuomo then re-sang the song, added the organ parts and Patrick Wilson added new percussion sounds to the song. [2]
