[edit] Oncostatin M and other articles

Greetings! I have just noticed your articles on Oncostatin M. Four α-helix bundle family and others. I am concerned that the content of these articles is too much in depth for wikipedia. Also, they appear to be manuscripts, which violate wikipedia's policy on original research. (The Endnote citations give it away). Wikipedia is a general purpose encylopedia; articles on specialist topics should at least have an introduction that explains the context and reason for importance to the general public. The body of the article can go into a bit more detail but wikipedia is not a biology journal. I am a biologist myself and have written many papers but this is not the place to publish a journal-style review article. Please edit the articles (considerably) to conform more to a general purpose article, and use the reference section to link to journal articles if readers want more in dept information.

I would also like to point out that if you are considering submitting these manuscripts for publication, prior publication on wikipedia will cause any journal to reject the article, because the copyright license you agreed to will conflict with the journal's copyright. And the opposite is true as well, if these articles have been submitted for publication, they can not also be published on wikipedia without permission from the journal.

I also encourage you to become familar with Manual of style and how to wikify an article. Your articles need a lot of clean up to meet wikipedia's formatting style.

Finally, I question your use of the image Hosm.jpg. Are you really the creator of the image? It looks like a professional image copied from a journal or textbook. If you really are the creator I would like to know what software you used. Otherwise the image may be tagged as a suspected copyright violation.

I hope you continue to contribute to wikipedia. Good luck. Thatcher131 14:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikify!

Assuming you have attended to all Thatcher131's points above, then please note that you do not remove a {{wikify}} tag from an article until the job has been done! Regarding Oncostatin M:

  • At a rough count, there are zero wikilinks outgoing from this article or incoming to it - create links
  • An excellent collection of references but they would be better implemented using the Footnotes facilty.

[edit] userpage deletion

Hello Mvilchez, I deleted your userpage because it had talk page info on it by mistake. This way you can start afresh with your userpage and edit it as you see fit. Happy editing! --Fang Aili 說嗎? 18:56, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Mvilchez 05:56, 12 April 2006 (UTC)MVilchez The articles have been lifted from some work that I did a few years ago. I assure you that no copyrights have been infringed and all is original work. I do not intend to publish any of it. As for the images I made them myself using various applications (weblab, POVray tracer, and various UNIX applications).

I do intend on heavily editing the articles just bear with me. I hope on extending wikipedias entries on all IL-6 like cytokines.

Thanks

MVilchez
