Mutawa

Mutawa or Mutawa-een, represent the "decency" committee that enforces Shariah laws in Saudi Arabia. Usually accompanied by local police, the Mutawa enforce islamic traditions and customs. The actual number of Mutawa members in any community fluccuates depending on government tolerance of their activities. Recent controversies were sparked when Mutawas blocked single male rescue workers from saving 14 female students in a dormitory fire in western Saudi Arabia has brought down harsh criticism on the activities of the Mutawa. The mutawas are also known for their harsh treatment of the Saudi youth. They usually don't allow loud music playing in cars.
