From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mutiny is the crime of conspiring to disobey orders that the mutineer is legally obliged to obey, for example by crew members of a ship. Most countries punish this crime with particularly harsh penalties; this has been almost invariably the death penalty.

While many mutinies are carried out in response to conditions within the military unit or ship, some are part of a larger aim, such as national liberation or reform of society, and may lead to revolution.
