Personally sadly close to the only bands putting out bearable finnish lyrics seem to be CMX (A.W. Yrjänä) and YUP (Jarkko Martikainen). Neither is even mentioned. Also, the musicians just about every foreigner I've met have known are Nightwish and Stratovarius, possibly Amorphis and (today) HIM and The 69 Eyes. I can see people blackballing them immediately as some genre music, but these are the bands that seem to be both lasting and progressing and non-hype successes. --blades 18:27, Apr 20, 2004 (UTC)

The band usually splits the opinions but they are constantly selling nice amounts of records and singles -> http://www.apulanta.fi/KultaPlatina_en.html. According to what I've heard their single 'Anna mulle piiskaa' at least used to be the most sold single in Finland. -Forb

[edit] Suomirock / SuomiMetal Origins.

I have decided to contribute to this article as my knowledge of Suomi rock music is quite indepth.

The first point i'd like to contribute is that Suomirock and Suomimetal do not have their orgins with modern American rock,this is often a common mistake from those not in the know, The orgins of Suomirock and Suomi metal are both not of Blues/Pentatonic origin, The American modern rock has its roots from the rock n' roll era,the Blues/Pentatonic melodying within this genre was invented by black slaves taken to america for labour,these black slave workers played music based on the Pentatonic scale,this was later discovered and america embraced and popularized this style of melody creation,these basic melody structures can be found in many modern rock formats, such as:

Country,
Blues,
American folk,
Hard rock,
Hair metal,
Arena rock,
Soft metal,
Rock N' Roll,

Although Suomirock and Suomimetal can be compared to its american counterparts they do not share the same orgins,these music styles orginate from finnish folk,Kalevala,runes,humppa and classical Baroque era music,these types of music all use the Diatonic scale which is D A D G A D tuning. Finnish people have always had a deep appreciation of classical music and jazz which can be found influencing many types of music orginating from Finland,Sweden,Norway,Denmark.

As a result many Finnish and other Scandinavian bands and music groups have a strong classical influence,many musicians are classically trained regardless of their personal musical tastes, This results in the Diatonic,Phrygian,Melodic minor scale & Harmonic minor scales being used for main melody construction and solo techniques. It was Scandinavia that coined the "Neo - Classical genre" example, look at the way ABBA wrote their melodies or Metal superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM or guitar genius YNGWIE J MALMSTEEN,all three of these bands typically describe Scandinavian music as a whole,due to their musical approach to writing music.

I could break all this down to a highly complex and detailed analysis of the rock and metal genre's,but in a nutshell,HARD ROCK=blues,pentatonics,R n'R,american COUNTRY= same as HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL=Classical,scandinavia,europe. All are loved by the same fans but both types are very different,the only relation? the DISTORTION/OVERDRIVEN guitar pedal/amplifier.
