Music Waste
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Music Waste is a music festival held in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was organized in 1994 by members of the bands Zolty Cracker and SMAK as a protest against the entry fees of the New Music West festival. Since that initial one night stand against the corporate sponsored New Music West festival, Music Waste has become an integral part of the Vancouver music scene. In 2005 and 2006 the festival took place in Vancouver's downtown eastside at four or five venues over four days, with four bands playing each show.
Since 2004 Music Waste has been organized by Only (magazine), who also print a festival guide including absurd tongue-in-cheek write ups about the performing bands to help maintain the festival's original spirit of irreverence. Music Waste has started leaning towards more experimental music and punk bands since Only (magazine) took the reigns.
For the last three years, Music Waste's promotional flipping-the-bird logo has been designed by Vancouver artist Sean Maxey.
