Music City Legend Drum and Bugle Corps

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps (“MCL”) was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in the summer of 2003 by Brent Unger and Scott Rhodes, and became a reality with tremendous help from a small group of drum corps enthusiasts. In its first year, MCL competed as a mini-corps at the Drum Corps Associates (“DCA”) Championships in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on September 3, 2004, and placed 5th with a score of 86.5. There were 21 members in the corps. These 21 members are the Charter Members of MCL.

In 2005, MCL grew substantially and competed as a Class A corps throughout the season with approximately 60 members. MCL performed at competitions in Illinois, Wisconsin, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee. The corps placed 4th in Class A at the DCA Championships in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and captured the High Brass award.

In 2006, MCL again increased its membership, at one point exceeding 80 members, and decided to compete in Open Class competition. MCL performed at competitions in Maryland, Minnesota, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and World Championships in Rochester, New York. The corps placed 13th out of 23 corps, and by competing in 4 DCA sanctioned shows in 2006, earned full membership rights in the DCA organization, including voting rights and a seat on the governing board. This is an almost unheard-of accomplishment for such a new organization.

The future looks bright in 2007 as recruiting efforts are better than ever. The corps has already attracted a group of highly talented, motivated and dedicated members and the buzz is growing. The corps will remain in DCA Open Class competition in 2007, and be the host corps for the 2007 DCA South Championships, in Nashville, Tennessee.
