The Musandam (Arabic: مسندم) peninsula is an exclave region of Oman that is separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. In the northern section of Musandam, around Kumzar, the current language is Kumzari, which is one of the south-western Iranian languages and a sub-branch of Persian. The Musandam Peninsula has an area of 1,800 square kilometers and a population of 28,727 people.

[edit] Administrative Divisions

Musandam governorate consists of four wilayat namely Khasab, Bukha, Daba Al Bayah and Madha. Khasab town is the regional center of the Governorate.

Musandam Governorate has a lot of strategic importance owing to its proximity to the International sea route of Strait of Hormuz.

KHASAB

Khasab Khasab is one of the largest towns in the Musandam Peninsula. Since opening up to tourists a few years ago it has become a popular destination for vacationers from nearby Dubai. Arguably the best hotel in Khasab is the Golden Tulip. One of the more interesting activities in Khasab is to take a Dhow Cruise in the neighboring waters where it is common to see dolphins.

There is also a large free-port development being made in Khasab to allow for greater trade with Iran, which is a short distance across the Strait of Hormuz.
