Hi. I'm a Brummie ex-pat in Sheffield, UK. I was born in November '79 and am male. Murrian is my surname.

My most recent qualifications are a BA German 2:1 from the University of Sheffield and a CNaVT Basiskennis (Dutch) from the Nederlandse Taalunie.

I'm also an obsessive sci-fi fan with an unhealthy interest in comparative and historical linguistics of the Germanic language family, European history (early Republican Rome to modern-day), the Civ games, and calligraphy. I can also read German printed in fraktur, a.k.a. German black-letter type, pretty fluently.

Ich interessiere mich auch sehr für Berlin, teilweise auf Grund meines fünfmonatiges Berlin-Aufenthalts, dem ich im Laufe meines Studiengangs genieß.

[edit] Genealogy

For any genealogists (and/or other Murrians) who've stumbled across my page, my Dad's been researching the family tree for over two decades, and has traced the name back from Birmingham through South Wales to Devon, just on the east side of the Tamar, and back into the 18th century. At some point it was Murrin - unfortunately, I can't remember offhand when or where it's first recorded as Murrian.

There are only four of us in Britain who we (my family) know of, Dad being an only child. He did have an uncle, who I think has died. (If not, he'd be able to count the years left to his 100th birthday on his fingers).

There are also a few Murrians scattered through the US (mainly the East Coast and Tennessee), and some in Australia (Melbourne, I think), although none are close relations and I've never had any contact with them.
