[edit] "Highborn bastard"

I want to know who keeps removing the above description and replacing it with "child", which makes Murtagh sound like a young boy. It's perfectly true that Murtagh is a bastard, he said it himself when he explained his past to Eragon by telling that his mother followed his father around, worshipped him, and eventually became pregnant by him. Nowhere is there mention of marriage, and would it really be realistic for an elite Rider to marry some peasant woman who kept stalking him? So Murtagh is a "highborn bastard", and I don't want to see that changed again. - shazzer

Sorry, but I think aristocratic sounds better than highborn and both are true descriptions. This is the first time I've changed it, though. - Casey

[edit] Spoilers

I'm about halfway into this book, and just reading the info box gave away a lot of spoilers I would rather have gone without.. Thanks a lot.

- Caeliv

Oh really? What kind of spoilers, might I ask? The fact that he's a character in Eragon and Eldest, that he has possessions, or that he has an "early life", none of which you actually read about? Stop being so pathetic. - shazzer

I have to agree with Caeliv on this. Although I think it is neccessary to depict Murtagh's past as clearly as possible since knowing his unfortunate childhood is a very defining part of his character, in the very beginning of the article one of the biggest surprise twists in the plot is revealed. (I'm referring to Eragon being Murtagh's brother and also Morzan's son.) All I'm suggesting is that Eragon is removed from the first paragraph entirely to at least partially spare readers who have only finished the first book or have just stumbled upon the page after seeing the movie. - Casey

[edit] BEST CHARACTER EVER

Murtagh is the best character ever in literature!!!

I agree!!!!!!!!!

In summation: These two have never read a book.

YOU LIE! These 2 tell truth. Ha.

[edit] Archiving

I've just archived a bunch of old discussion, very little of which was about the article itself. It's not an obvious thing, but as the header I've just added says, this is not a place to discuss opinions on Murtagh or the series in which he appears. Having lengthy off-topic exchanges clutters the page unnecessarily. While it would have been acceptable for me to simply delete all those exchanges, I've archived them instead as a courtesy. In the future, please limit use of this page to talking about how to improve the Wikipedia article. Thank you for your attention, and for your contributions to Wikipedia. ???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have every right to talk about Murtagh here!

I think it's time for your nap. And Brendan Moody - you had a point. Sorry about that. - shazzer, September 15 2006
I said it once and I shall say it again: WE WERE DISCUSSING THE CHARACTER, WHICH THE ARTICAL IS ABOUT!
Please sign your comments. Discussions on wikipedia are typically about a character's article, not necessarily the character. Most of the discussion on Murtagh was frivolous or speculative (or both), and there are several forums where the discussion would be acceptable. Please see Talk_page#Basic_rules_for_all_talk_pages. Thank you Brendan Moody for making an archive!--Spyderchan 22:35, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

Can someone update Murtagh's picture? This one's old. I think the image of him from the movie site (positioned next to Ajihad's image) would work better, and you can also see the character more clearly. - jerry

Do you mean the one in the "volcano" background? The compass thing is touching his head a bit.--Spyderchan 21:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I like the one thats up even though it is old. Its his best picture from the movie. - Casey

I love this one! It's maybe the best of him, although it doesn't look like him at all as he is in the movie - Lonnie

[edit] Murtagh

I luv Murtagh, Garrett Hedlund was the best choice, he's so hot! But he was my favourite character before i knew the movie was coming out too. -Lyneia

Murtagh rules. He is the best character. My boyfriend thinks so too. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.231.162.9 (talk) 22:52, 31 December 2006 (UTC).

Definately!!!! I think having Garrett Hedlum play him in the movie was a fantastic choice as well! - Casey

[edit] rider

is murtagh a rider?

Technically, yes. Although he isn't a part of the 'Order of Dragon Riders', so to speak, because he's working for the Empire.

Really? Wouldn't he be considered one of the Forsworn as apposed to a Rider since he has no real connection with either group?? - Casey

...The Forsworn are/were Riders. - djsgkl.
