Murry Bartow

Murry Bartow, an American basketball coach, is currently the head coach at East Tennessee State University. Prior to accepting the head coaching job at ETSU, he served as the head coach for UAB from 1996 to 2002, succeeding his father Gene Bartow, the creator of the Blazers basketball program. At UAB, he compiled a 103-83 record, that included 48 conference wins.
Bartow's first season at ETSU ended in a 76-73 NCAA tournament loss to Cincinnati. Injuries and poor play the next season resulted in a 10-18 finish, in what turned out to be the Bucs final season in the Southern Conference. The following season resulted in a 15-13 record, and some fans began calling for Bartow to be fired due to his habit of forcing his players to hold the ball when they had the lead late in games. This practice resulted in losses to Belmont and Gardner-Webb, the latter being in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun tournament held on ETSU's home floor, where the Bucs blew a 17 point 2nd half lead and lost 64-63. Bartow responded by winning the regular season Atlantic Sun title the following year, despite the graduation of three starters.
